How Do You Know What Your Target Heart Rate Should Be During A Spinning Class?
Raj Dubey
It’s hard to tell what your heart rate is without a proper heart monitor so first step is to get one (like a Polar). Or, try the talking test: if you can sing, then you’re going easy, if you can talk 1-2 sentences, then it’s hard (aerobic) if you’re unable to talk it’s probably anaerobic. But a monitor is best!

Start easy then hit easy, aerobic, anaerobic rates, depending on what your instructor is doing. 60-70% of max heart rate (MHR) is easy; 70-80% is aerobic; and 80-90% is anaerobic; VO2 max is 90-100% and should be done just for 1-2 minutes. Target heart rates are per individual not age. Thus the age predicted charts do not apply to most of the people. Having a professional guide you through a Max HR Test is a good idea. Doing so you will know what your parameters are. A good heart rate monitor is an asset to keep you within the range you want to be in regards to training rides. One should not go anaerobic very often when training HR's. The best training zone is 65%-80% MHR. (Endurance Zone).

It all has a lot to do with your age and the studio should have a heart rate chart posted

In general, 65-80% of your max heart rate. Whether you're on the low end or high end depends on what you're trying to achieve (e.g. endurance, strengh, interval training).
