I was set to be on high blood pressure medication for the rest of my life. High blood pressure runs in my family and the doctor told me there was nothing I could do about it. After an extreme high blood pressure reading at the doctors office I was prescribed medicine that I did not want to take let alone be on for the rest of my life. After studying this for a long time I came to realize that the medical community had very little nutritional knowledge and that 90% of my problems came from my bad eating habits. I cut out sugars , grains of all types and dairy. My blood pressure levelled out almost immediately and I no longer take any pills. I now average 115/78 blood pressure every morning. Sugar and all foods that convert to glucose quickly after ingestion are the culprit. My doctor did not know this and was content on prescribing medicine instead of finding out the why behind the high blood pressure Don't know who you are or your particular circumstances but I can almost guaranteed that this will work for you as well.

Do whatever your doctor tells you to do. I was diagnosed at 22 and initially rejected my doctor's recommendation thy I take drugs. I was young, fit, eating healthy and managing my stress levels. There wasn't a lifestyle change I could implement to lower it (I tried). I have a family history of essential HBP. I've been on low dose Lisinopril since and it's just like taking a vitamin. My BP has been great the entire time (once tried getting off with doctors supervision and it went right back up). Your doctor knows you, we don't. Listen to your doctors advice. And if you have to take medication, it not as bad as you think (assuming the med is effective). I've been told to expect a normal life span as long as I m

I'm overweight by 20 lbs. I eat junk food. I don't exercise. Those three things have a negative effect on my BP. Started Lisinoprol. Side effect was a cough. ANNOYING cough! So doc put me on a different drug. Side effect was chills. Went to a naturopath doc. She put me on Carditone. Brought my 150/92 Bp down to 120/82. If I watch my diet and stress levels, my Bp can be 117/74. Depends.

If weight is an issue for you, then just losing 10 lbs has been known to resolve HBP. And cut out sodium wherever possible: soda, extra salt.

Janet K: if you are suggesting that eating real food is dangerous and that medication is superior to fixing the problem then I would respectfully suggest that you are wrong. You cannot inherit high blood pressure. You can however inherit your parents bad eating habits. To suggest that our problems are not of our own doing while we ingest garbage all day and all we need to do is pop a pill to fix everything is irresponsible.

The best book out there is Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Caldwell B. Esselstyn. It includes tons of recipes. What you put into your body is responsible for 90% of your health. It will be the best investment you have ever made. I've never felt better in my life.
