Definitely take the time to check out weekly sales - if you can, walk or bike and stop by a couple different stores to get the best deals! I'm not a vegetarian but I love tofu - it's versatile, cheap and a fantastic source of protein! Along with eggs, meats that are on special and any produce sales, you can definitely make a budget diet that is very nutritious! Keep lots of different herbs and spices on hand, and if you're feeling 'stuck' or nothing in the pantry/fridge is catching your eye, you can always use Pinterest or AllRecipes, enter the ingredients you have and get some inspiration from others! Good luck!

Check out blogs under search "budget cooking." A good blog is A Girl Called Jack (http://agirlcalledjack.com/). She also has things priced out (in the UK but still helpful)

You can make "pudding" to curb your sweet cravings by puréeing your choice of healthy liquid ingredients (I like cinnamon, nutmeg and almond butter with a bit of water) and adding chia seeds. Let them soak for about 20 minutes and enjoy.

I was a cook and now do it for fun. When times are tough you can still afford to be healthy. Just keep at least 2-3 veg and fruits, bulk items like grains and beans and lentils, and pasta

Any milk, like almond milk, and frozen berries, with handful of greens (spinach) and a source of protein (Greek yogurt, whey protein). You can make an anytime smoothie that can be a meal replacement or nutritious snack.
