Split higher-dose tablets to double the supply and save on your co-pay. Most solid tablets are splittable, especially if it has a line through the middle. Be sure to check with your doctor or the package insert to be sure.

Getting a 90-day supply (as opposed to a regular 30-day supply) can save a lot - for example, Walgreens offers many generics at $12.99 for a 90-day supply, whereas three 30-day prescriptions will cost $29.97.

Check if your drug is part of the $4 prescription program at Walmart's pharmacy, which offers many generic drugs for $4 for a 30-day supply. Check the list of drugs here: http://www.walmart.com/cp/4-Prescriptions/1078664

Paying full retail price can cost less than the insurance copay at some big-box or online pharmacies. A 60-tablet bottle of the diabetes drug metformin can cost $8.30 at drugs.com with a discount, compared with the typical $10 or $15 insurance copay. It pays to ask.

A lot of pharmaceutical companies have savings programs. Enbrel has the ENcourage Foundation, Remicade has a similar program. There are internet coupons, all you have to do is Google the phrase "internet coupon!"
